Meet Oligen®
A standardized bulk Oleacein ingredient — 20 mg of active 3,4-DHPEA-EDA per serving — manufactured by Oleolive for brands building the next generation of olive polyphenol products.
The Active Ingredient Behind Oligen®
Oleacein (also called 3,4-DHPEA-EDA) is a secoiridoid polyphenol found in the fruit and leaves of Olea europaea — the olive tree. It is one of the highest-concentration phenolic compounds present in extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO).
Oligen® is a bulk ingredient manufactured by Oleolive and formulated to deliver a standardized 20 mg dose of Oleacein per serving within a 400 mg total powder weight. It is distributed exclusively through Applied Food Sciences, making it available to supplement brands, functional food developers, and nutraceutical formulators worldwide.
Dietary supplement formats are currently in active distribution. Additional applications — including food & beverage, cosmetic, topical, and animal health — are in development or being commercialized.

Formulation Notes
In aqueous beverages, Oligen® disperses readily at low shear. For maximum clarity, a spray-dried form with cyclodextrin encapsulation is available on request. In bar matrices, uniform blending with dry ingredients before compression achieves consistent dosing. Avoid co-processing with highly reactive ingredients (e.g. iron salts at pH > 6) which may accelerate polyphenol oxidation.
Regulatory Note
Product classification and permissible label claims depend on intended use and jurisdiction. All regulatory determinations are the sole responsibility of the finished-product brand. Contact AFS to be connected with appropriate regulatory counsel.

Oligen® is manufactured under food-grade GMP. All label claims for finished animal supplement products are the sole responsibility of the brand and its regulatory counsel. Oleolive and AFS make no efficacy claims for animal applications. Contact AFS for full technical and safety documentation.
How Much Olive Oil Would You Need?
Oleacein content in olive oil varies significantly depending on cultivar, harvest timing, and processing. Use the slider to explore how many millilitres of oil a consumer would need to reach 20 mg of Oleacein.
Why 5% Oleacein Is So Hard to Guarantee
Oleacein doesn't cooperate. It degrades rapidly after harvest, varies wildly between cultivars, and disappears almost entirely during conventional olive oil processing. Reliable standardization requires solving every one of these variables simultaneously.
Cultivar & Harvest Variability
Oleacein concentration in raw olives spans an order of magnitude depending on variety, growing region, soil conditions, and climate. Even within a single cultivar, content can swing 3–5× between an early-harvest and a late-harvest fruit. No single grove, picked once a year, produces a predictable yield.
Rapid Post-Harvest Degradation
Oleacein is enzymatically labile. Within hours of harvest, endogenous olive enzymes — particularly β-glucosidases and polyphenol oxidases — begin breaking it down. Conventional mill processing, which involves heat, oxygen exposure, and delays, destroys the majority of available Oleacein before a single drop of oil is pressed.
Processing Losses in EVOO
Even premium extra-virgin olive oil retains only a fraction of the fruit's original polyphenol content. Light, heat, oxygen, and storage time continue degrading Oleacein after bottling. A product standardized on fresh fruit content will consistently over-deliver on paper and under-deliver in practice.
HPLC Verification — Every Lot
Oligen® is standardized to 5% w/w Oleacein and verified by HPLC against a certified reference standard before release. Every production lot ships with a full Certificate of Analysis. The number on the label is the number in the bag — not an estimate, not a batch average, not a theoretical calculation from raw fruit.
Oleolive's proprietary extraction and stabilization process captures Oleacein at peak concentration, halts enzymatic degradation, and locks in potency through to the finished bulk powder.
Why Brands Choose Oligen®
Oleacein content in commercial olive oils varies significantly depending on cultivar, harvest date, processing method, storage time, and light exposure. No consumer product built around raw EVOO can reliably deliver a consistent, analytically verified dose.
Oligen® eliminates that variability. Every 400 mg serving is HPLC-verified by Oleolive to contain exactly 20 mg of Oleacein — a precise, documented quantity your brand can disclose on label with confidence.
